Update SWEAR for Milestone XProtect
What you’ll accomplish
By the end of this guide:
- SWEAR Milestone components requiring update will be updated to the latest version.
- API credentials will be validated in Milestone Management Client.
- SWEAR service and camera protection settings will be verified after the update.
Who this is for
- Milestone administrators responsible for updating SWEAR components.
1) Download SWEAR components for update
Download the updated SWEAR installers you plan to apply:
- Milestone XProtect → Recording Server Service Installation.
- Milestone XProtect → Client Plugin Installation.
If you do not have a SWEAR Portal account, contact SWEAR Support.
2) Uninstall SWEAR Milestone Plugin (if updating plugin)
If the SWEAR Milestone Plugin needs an update, uninstall the currently installed version using the Windows Apps Installer.

3) Uninstall SWEAR Certification Service (if updating service)
If SWEAR Certification Service needs an update, start by stopping the SWEAR service from the Windows system tray.
After the SWEAR Certification Service is stopped, uninstall the currently installed version using the Windows Apps Installer.
4) Install updated SWEAR Certification Service (if updating service)
Install the new SWEAR Certification Service version on the Milestone Recording Server(s). After installation you will need to start the service from the Windows System tray. Previous configuration settings will be restored.

5) Install updated SWEAR Milestone Plugin
Install the new SWEAR Milestone Plugin version on the Milestone Smart Client system.
6) Verify API credentials and test connection
In Milestone Management Client:
- Navigate to SWEAR → API Settings.
- Confirm the Auth Client ID and Auth Client Secret are correct.
- Select "Test Connection."
7) Start SWEAR service
In the Windows system tray on the recording server:
- Start the SWEAR service.
8) Verify protected camera configuration
In Milestone Management Client:
- Navigate to SWEAR → Certification Servers → Certification Server Name.
- Verify selected cameras are still configured for SWEAR protection.
